Things that take hard work, scare you quite a bit, push you further and harder than you’ve pushed in the past, force you to search for a deeper purpose, make you step outside your comfort zone, usually build up more doubt and fear upon failing than anything else, and of course…
Get you to the place you truly want to be, yet never allow yourself permission to fully imagine.
I’m talking about Big Ass Targets.
Without setting big ass targets in life, we’re very unlikely to ever get ourselves past the ruts and plateaus we face. And I know the title says “Targets Too Big”, but the truth is… they need to be too big or you won’t get out of the rut and through the plateau.
See in the group of men I roll with, we call it “the drift” – which is a way of saying you’re simply floating by, without drive and purpose to tackle or even set big goals.
And the reality is, we all go through this. Usually multiple times per year, actually. But that’s not the point of today, because if you listen and apply what I’m about to go over in today’s blog… Then you’ll have the tools and resources to not only recognize that you’re in a serous drift, but to be able to push past it and onto your goals again.
In 2017 alone I’ve traveled, worked with coaches, studied under leaders, and explored what it actually means to push myself to a higher standard.
To live life at a standard of working towards more, constantly. This means in my body physically, my mind emotionally and spiritually, my relationships, and in my business.
How to set some big ass targets that I highly doubted were once possible even in the next year… only to crush them in a matter of 90 days.
But before I go on and on, let’s dive into What I’ve Learned From Setting Some Big Ass Targets in my career and the different journeys in my life…
#1 – You Can’t Do It Alone.
Don’t care who you are or what you believe; nobody succeeds easier or with more by themselves.
It’s the same reasons Lions run in a pride and Wolves run in a pack.
Same reason why there has never been any documented evidence that ANY primate has ever survived in the wild alone.
It’s the reason our DNA is built to breed and our hearts pull us towards a significant other.
I’ve tried going the cheap route.
I’ve tried the safe route.
I’ve tried going the solo route.
But every time, I end up finding a coach or a partner to elevate things to another level and we double our speed and double our results.
“2 heads are better than 1”
Accountability, Support, Unbiased Opinions and Advice, Experience…
The list goes on.
Drop the ego.
#2 – Your Mind Hates You.
It’s the simple yet fucked up truth. Your brain will talk you out of shit.
So every time I set big ass targets, I ignore my brain and let my gut talk to me.
What do I FEEL.
What is my PURPOSE.
What is creating this stagnate, unhappy feeling that KILLS me.
My brain will say,
“That’s hard. You’re going to have to give up some things, it’s going to be uncomfortable… And you’re already so good at what you do now…
Let’s stay and be safe Cody”
And as hard as it is, I have to say no and trust my gut.
I also have a coach and people in my life who will tell me to be the pit bull I am and go get it.
Resistance is a real thing that occurs in our mind every single time we have to do something that pushes us.
You have to trust your GUT on what you NEED and TRULY WANT, then push right past that wall of resistance and go get it. No matter how scary that path may seem right now.
#3 – You NEED A Plan.
“Strategy isn’t sexy, but it builds kingdoms”
I hear about the “intuitive” style of doing things, but that shit just doesn’t work. Sorry to be blunt and honest, but that’s the truth and I’m here to be real.
If you have learned how to eat intuitively and maintain or improve
your body composition, than that is due to your tracking at one point or following a plan that taught you how to do so.
But nothing can be built without a blueprint.
No treasure can be discovered without a map.
And no foreign travel is successful without a guide or a GPS.
And THAT’S OK.
In setting big ass targets, AKA -> Goals that you truly care about… I mean like the ones you get the butterflies thinking about…
You need a map.
You need a plan.
You need a strategy.
You need to know exactly how you will arrive and how you will execute.
You also need to know how you will maintain.
#4 – Celebration MATTERS
This might be the most common mistake I’ve seen these very successful guys I’ve been working with do, including myself.
They set a goal, get close enough to the goal that they know it’s about to be accomplished so they naturally set a new goal for after that, and when they hit the original target they don’t even fucking realize they accomplished a massive win because they’re already onto the next target.
This causes burnout.
This devalues the appreciation you hold to your accomplishments.
And this disintegrates your purpose behind it all.
When we don’t celebrate every little victory along the way, we forget why we’re doing it in the first place and we will soon stop being so successful.
“Appreciate the little victories or you will stop having the big ones”
#5 – Comparison Is The Death Of Joy.
That’s a Mark Twain quote… Smart man and great with words. He hit the nail on the head.
I’ve done it, you’ve done it, the most successful people have done it, and at the end of the day it is one of the biggest factors slowing you down in seeing the results you desire.
Whether we’re talking about the genetic freak that was born with abs, the millionaire who “you’re way the fuck smarter than”, or the dude who was in the right place at the right time.
All of that is simply worrying about someone other than yourself.
The only thing that will accomplish is distracting you from getting yourself where you want to be and making you second-guess your abilities to succeed.
So what’s the lesson? Simple. Stop comparing.
Worry about you, your path, and your result. Because in every single situation, you will get to the goal by a different path than the next guy.
See I haven’t wrote you like this in a while; it’s been a lot of training and nutrition topics… Which I love, but there’s a reason for that.
I’ve been soul searching. I’ve been discovering my why. My purpose.
And it’s taken me to California 3 times in the last 9 months, it’s introduced me to some crazy people and some unbelievably smart people, it’s had me in the boxing ring, it’s had me studying, learning, researching, writing, speaking, and above all….
Getting very uncomfortable.
But I’ve also knocked down some big ass targets that have propelled me further in the last year than I imagined possible.
And more than anything, it’s created more POWER in my life than ever before. What I mean by power, is that I’ve taken control of my life, my body, my mind, my business, and the outcomes I will see while I’m on this earth.
So what does that tell you?
YOU can be WAY more and way further along than your mind tells you is possible.
And very likely much sooner than you think.
It also tells you that YOU are in control of your own possibilities. No one else.
If you need to take control of your life, set some big ass targets, and finally reach the goal you’ve been talking about for far too long…
Jump on a Coaching Call with me. Let’s map it out.
So you can finally execute on what your gut is telling that you need.
And remember, Your Body Is The Path To Power. As soon as you take control of that aspect of your life, your mind will open to new possibilities. It will then bleed into your relationships and relieve stress like you’ve never felt before.
All of this leads to exponential growth in your business, career and finances. This doesn’t happen by mistake and it’s why the most powerful men in the world swear by a system just like this.
